Enrique Foster "Ique" Malbec Mendoza
2008, Argentina ($14.99 aprox.)

Bodega Enrique Foster combines the tradition of the land with state of the art winemaking techniques. The winery uses a gravity-flow system which allows the wine to be transported without the use of pumps, thus avoiding its detrimental effects on wine.

Composed of 100% Malbec, this young, fruit-forward wine offers aromas and flavors of ripe berry. Balanced with a firm structure, it exhibits soft tannins and satisfying finish.

Please feel free to donate any amount to help with costs of website maintenance, hosting and postage for special mailings as I occasionally come across a great deal like a wine book, magnet or special wine charms that I'd like to send to members as gifts.

After you join the club, you will be emailed the suggested wine for the upcoming week.  Go out and purchase the wine, choose the pairings of your choice or by suggestions on the website and meet the rest of us on Saturday evenings at 8:00 PM to be sure to taste live together on Facebook- no matter where we may be located around the country.

We then discuss our experience with each other and fill out a downloadable rating chart (above) that we submit to the club and keep a copy for our own records so we know what wines we would like to buy to build our personal wine collections at home.

It's a nice way to get together when we 'physically' can't due to locations, time zones and conditions.  It's also the SAFE way to indulge.  No drinking and driving here!  Enjoy from the safety of your very own living room, kitchen or wine cellar, if you are so fortunate to have one.

If you happen to live in California, print out a complimentary tasting coupon for two to the Kendall Jackson Wine Center:

Based in the Lujan de Cuyo sub-zone, Enrique Foster owns old vine fruit from two Malbec vineyards: one planted in 1919 and the other in 1956. A total of 19 hectares of vineyards belong to the winery, which makes this wine from nearly all estate fruit. In addition to the excellent raw material, Enrique Foster built the first gravity flow winery in Argentina. Gravity flow plus old vine Malbec fruit appears to be an excellent combination, if this entry level wine from the estate is any indication. Fresh mixed wild berry and huckleberry aromas lead to a very lively and snappy expression of Malbec. Soft on intry, with terrific fruit intensity and purity, this "Ique" (short for Enrique) is delicious and funk to drink.

Varietal:

Malbec

- Red grape variety originally made popular in Bordeaux, where it is still found in some blends. This grape has declined in popularity in many regions because of its susceptibility to downy mildew, rot and frost bite. It seems to have found a good home in the drier Argentina and Chile. It can also be found in some California Meritage and a blending agent. Here is a list of our bestselling Malbec.
Country:

Argentina

- Argentina is regarded as one of the most dynamic wine-producing nations in the world, and possibly the most important wine-producing region in South America. Only four countries in the world produce more wine than Argentina. Considerable investments (much of which has come from famous French, Italian and California wine producers) have been made in new vineyards and winemaking technology in the past several years, which along with recent plantings of more premium varieties of grapes, has made Argentina much more competitive internationally. The Mendoza region is the most important region in Argentina's wine industry. And Malbec, among other Bordeaux varietals grown here, reigns supreme.
